Our PODCAST on Baptism best explains its biblical importance but we have included a brief synopsis here.
WHAT IS BAPTISM?
Water baptism is an outward, public profession of one’s faith in Christ that represents an inward spiritual decision of Christ being Lord and Savior of their life.
WHEN SHOULD I BE BAPTIZED? In the book of Acts, all who expressed trust in Jesus, the Son of God as their Savior were baptized immediately.
WHY SHOULD I BE BAPTIZED? Jesus commanded it as the first step in being His disciple, a true follower of Christ.
“And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)
HOW SHOULD I BE BAPTIZED? The word “baptism” as it appears in the Bible means immersion (the process of submersion in water followed by emergence from the water).
Baptizing is to be done “in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19). Triune immersion symbolically pictures the Triune God at work in our salvation: God the Father sent God the Son (Jesus) to die for our sins, and God the Holy Spirit makes us spiritually alive (Titus 3:5).
